Tools You’ll Need
Before starting, gather the following tools:
- Masking tape
- Pencil
- Adjustable square or ruler
- Drill
- Screwdriver
These simple tools will help ensure your handle positions are accurate and consistent across all doors.
Mark the Handle Position
Start by applying masking tape to the area where the handle will be installed.
Masking tape helps protect the door surface and makes it easier to mark accurate measurements.
A common industry guideline for handle placement is:
- 50mm from the side of the door
- 50mm from the bottom of the door
This positioning creates a balanced and consistent appearance across your kitchen cabinets.
Mark the Screw Hole Positions
Once the masking tape is applied:
- Use an adjustable square or ruler to mark the position of the first screw hole.
- Draw a straight vertical line where the handle will sit.
- Measure the distance between the screw holes on the handle.
- Transfer this measurement onto the masking tape so both hole positions are clearly marked.
Double-check the measurements before drilling to ensure the handle will align correctly.
Drill the Holes
When you're confident with the positioning:
- Use a drill to carefully drill through the door at the first marked point.
- Repeat the process for the second screw hole.
Drilling through the masking tape can help prevent the drill bit from slipping and protects the door finish.
Attach the Handle
After drilling the holes:
- Remove the masking tape.
- Insert the fixing screws from the back of the door.
- Align the handle with the drilled holes.
- Tighten the screws using a screwdriver.
Once secured, your handle should sit firmly against the door surface.
Repeat the process for the remaining doors and drawer fronts.
