How to Replace Kitchen Cupboard & Wardrobe Doors
A Simple Step-by-Step DIY Guide
Upgrading your kitchen or bedroom doesn’t have to mean ripping everything out.
If your cabinets are still solid, replacing the doors and drawer fronts can completely transform the look of your space — without the disruption or expense of a full renovation.
At DIY Doors, we manufacture made-to-measure replacement kitchen and wardrobe doors designed to fit your existing units. Follow the steps below to plan, order and install your new doors with confidence.
Step 1. Measure your existing doors
Accurate measurements are essential when ordering made-to-measure cupboard doors.
What you’ll need:
- Tape measure
- Pen and paper (or your phone notes)
Measure the door size
- Open the cabinet door.
- Measure the width (side to side) from the back of the door.
- Measure the height (top to bottom) from the back of the door.
- Record each measurement carefully.
Always measure the actual door itself — not the cabinet opening.
Measure hinge hole positions
If you are reusing existing hinges, you will need the hinge hole measurements:
- Measure from the top of the door to the centre of the top hinge hole
- Measure from the bottom of the door to the centre of the bottom hinge hole
Measuring to the centre of the hinge hole ensures your replacement kitchen doors align perfectly.
You’ll also need to note the door handing:
- If the door opens to the left, it is left-hand hanging
- If the door opens to the right, it is right-hand hanging
Taking time at this stage prevents issues later.

Step 2. Choose Your Replacement Door Style
Now that you have your measurements, you can browse our range of:
- Replacement kitchen cupboard doors

- Accessories and hinges
Whether you prefer modern slab styles or classic shaker designs, all doors are manufactured to your exact dimensions.
Take your time selecting a finish and colour that suits your space.
Step 3. Order your FREE colour samples

You can request up to six free colour samples, allowing you to compare tones in your own lighting.
This helps you avoid surprises and choose with confidence.

Once you’ve chosen your style and colour:
- Select your chosen door range.
- Enter your exact height and width measurements.
- Add hinge hole positions (if required).
- Choose whether you would like pre-drilled hinge holes.
Our online configurator allows you to build each door to specification before adding it to your basket.
After checkout, you will receive confirmation of your order. Most replacement doors are delivered within the stated lead time shown at checkout.
Step 5. Install Your New Doors
Replacing kitchen cupboard doors is typically a straightforward DIY task.
Tools required:
- Screwdriver
Installation process:
- Remove the old door by releasing the hinge clip.
- Unscrew the hinges from the old door.
- Attach hinges to the new door using the pre-drilled holes.
- Clip the hinges back onto the cabinet plate.
That’s it.
With correctly drilled hinge holes, installation usually takes only a few minutes per door.
