Gather Your Tools
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- A tape measure
- A pen or pencil
- Paper or a notes app to record measurements
Taking clear notes will make ordering your replacement doors much easier later.
Measure the Door Size
Always measure the existing door itself, not the cabinet opening.
- Open the cabinet door.
- Measure the width from side to side.
- Measure the height from top to bottom.
- Record each measurement carefully.
For the most accurate results, measure from the back of the door rather than the front. Many doors have shaped or bevelled edges that can affect the measurement if taken from the front.
Write down the measurements for every door individually.
Measure the Hinge Positions
If you are planning to reuse your existing hinges, you will also need the hinge hole measurements.
Measure:
- From the top of the door to the centre of the top hinge hole
- From the bottom of the door to the centre of the bottom hinge hole
Measuring to the centre of the hinge hole ensures your replacement kitchen doors will align correctly with your cabinet hinges.
Identify Door Handing
You will also need to note the direction the door opens.
- If the door opens to the left, it is left-hand hanging
- If the door opens to the right, it is right-hand hanging
This information helps ensure hinge positions are correct when your doors are manufactured.
